A Denver Landmark Reimagined

Union Station began with the station itself: its façade, glowing windows, and the visual weight of a place designed around arrival and departure.

Rather than placing a train in front of the building, the locomotive becomes part of the architecture itself. The result is less a literal scene than a constructed memory of Denver rail travel, winter departures, illuminated glass, and the mythology of the Ski Train.

Built in the Glassworks style, the painting combines bold linework, layered acrylic color, controlled airbrush transitions, and hand-painted highlights to create the feeling of illuminated architectural glass.

From Structure to Glow

Stage 01

Composition

The station facade, train, lettering, and architectural rhythm are arranged as one unified graphic composition before color is introduced.

Stage 2

Linework

Heavy black outlines define every shape and establish the stained-glass framework that holds the composition together.

Stage 03

Color Fields

Layered acrylic color establishes the atmosphere, illuminated windows, and the stained-glass character that defines the painting.

Stage 4

Highlights

Final glazing, airbrush refinement, pencil detail, and hand-painted highlights bring depth, texture, and the illuminated finish that completes the piece.
