Corn Nuts & Coffee New Music Video Release

August 2026 • Studio Note • 5 min read
A new music video from The Lantern Club, following the adventures of Cal Gordy - a character who's somehow both young and old at the same time. From a coffee shop brainstorming session to a finished film, this project explores how traditional storytelling and modern AI production tools can work together to bring fictional worlds to life.
Corn Nuts & Coffee

From Coffee Shop Conversation to Finished Film

Some projects begin with a sketch.

Others begin over coffee.

Corn Nuts & Coffee started exactly that way - during one of our regular brainstorming sessions. Ideas bounced around the table, stories got exaggerated, bad jokes became good ones, songs started taking shape on a whiteboard, and somewhere in the middle of it all, Cal Gordy rolled into the room.

There are some familiar names tucked into the story for the Line family, too. Dennis' dad, Gordon, used to eat Corn Nuts and drink coffee on the long summer road trips from Illinois to Colorado, so the title carried a little history before the character ever showed up.

Cal is a funny character because he's both young and old at the same time. He has the optimism and curiosity of a kid, but somehow carries the perspective of someone who's spent a lifetime behind the wheel. We never felt the need to explain that contradiction. Like many of the characters in The Lantern Club, he's built from imagination, memory, and just enough truth to feel familiar.

Once the song was finished, the obvious question became:

Could we actually make the movie we were seeing in our heads?

Not long ago, that would have been a difficult question to answer. Producing even a modest music video traditionally meant hiring actors, finding locations, gathering props, renting equipment, coordinating schedules, shooting for days, and then spending weeks in post-production. For a small independent studio, those realities often put ideas on the shelf before they ever had a chance.

Today, the process looks different.

We stayed in the studio and used a combination of songwriting, illustration, editing, animation, and AI filmmaking tools to build Cal's world from the ground up. AI didn't replace the creative process - it expanded what two independent artists could realistically produce.

Creating Corn Nuts & Coffee was not a one-click exercise.

Over the course of roughly ten hours, we refined prompts, rebuilt scenes, experimented with camera angles, adjusted pacing, swapped out shots that weren't working, and chased visual continuity where it mattered most. Some battles were worth fighting. Others were better left alone. The final film was then assembled and shaped in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Some sequences came together quickly.

Others definitely did not.

That's the part people rarely see.

AI can generate possibilities, but it does not decide which moments belong in the story. Every shot still has to be selected, every transition shaped, every beat timed, and every creative decision made by the people behind the keyboard. In many ways, the process feels closer to directing and editing than simply creating images.

For us, that is the exciting part.

A conversation over coffee can become a song.

That song can become a fictional character.

That character can become a music video.

And all of it can happen inside a small creative studio without the enormous budgets that once stood between an idea and its audience.

That's not replacing creativity.

It's removing barriers to it.

We're still experimenting, still learning, and still discovering what is possible with this new workflow. Corn Nuts & Coffee is simply another mile marker on that journey, and we're excited to share it with you.

We hope you enjoy the ride.

LOG ENTRY

The film began as a simple road song and gradually turned into a full character piece. Once Cal Gordy, Lil’ Gordy, the black Peterbilt, and the route west were established, the project became less about illustrating lyrics and more about building a believable day on the road.

Entire truck stops, diners, roadside moments, and alternate endings were created, revised, and sometimes removed as the pacing settled into place. The finished cut runs just over three minutes, but the visual world around it became much larger than the film itself.

CONTINUITY NOTES

One unexpected challenge during production involved Lil’ Gordy, Cal’s faithful road companion. The canine actor developed an unfortunate fondness for Corn Nuts and reportedly consumed far more than anyone considered advisable.

The following day was... complicated.

With filming temporarily halted for what the crew described as digestive considerations, a stand-in dog was brought in to complete several scenes. While the substitute gave a commendable performance, attentive viewers may notice that Lil’ Gordy appears to look just a little different during several scenes throughout the film.

No dogs were harmed during production.

Several Corn Nuts, however, never made it home.

FINAL OBSERVATION

Every mile in the film was imagined before it was assembled.

See Ya Soon.
