The Build
A large-format Glassism painting built around Denver Union Station, the Ski Train, rail history, Deco geometry, and the glow of illuminated architectural glass.
Built as a Place, Not Just a Picture
Union Station began with the station itself: its facade, lettering, glowing windows, and the visual weight of a place designed around arrival and departure.
The locomotive pushes directly into the architecture rather than sitting in front of it. The result is less a literal scene than a constructed memory of Denver rail travel, winter departures, illuminated glass, and the mythology of the Ski Train.
The painting combines hard black linework, layered acrylic, pencil detail, airbrushed light, and controlled color fields. Final highlights are being added to strengthen the backlit effect and give the surface more depth in person.
From Structure to Glow
Composition
The station facade, train, lettering, and architectural rhythm are arranged as one unified graphic structure.
Linework
Heavy outlines establish the stained-glass framework and hold the composition together at full scale.
Color Fields
Layered acrylic and airbrushed transitions create illuminated windows, metal, sky, and interior glow.
Highlights
Final pencil, paint, and airbrush details sharpen edges, deepen texture, and bring the light forward.
